What Is a "Port Captain"?

Port Captains are CPS members who stand ready to assist boaters in their area.
Port Captains provide reliable information on the area, and comradeship to visitors. Port Captains keep information on hand that a visiting skipper may request over the telephone or email, such as:

Navigation hazards which may not be apparent on current charts
Location and telephone numbers of local doctors and dentists who are willing to treat a transient patient.
Location and telephone numbers of ambulances or rescue squads.
Location and telephone numbers of mechanics, repair yards, sail repair, marine fittings and marine equipment stores.
The closest source of provisions, recommended restaurants and motels.

The information provided by a port captain is based on information available to the port captain in the area of interest and the Canadian Power & Sail Squadrons, its Districts and Squadrons neither warrant nor guarantee that such information is free from error or omission and assume no responsibility or liability for any error or omission which may exist in the information provided by the port captain.

Recipients of any information from port captains must be made aware that the information is given in good faith and to the best of their knowledge, and must agree to indemnify and save harmless the port captains, and Canadian Power & Sail Squadrons, for any loss or damage that may be sustained as a result of the advice offered.
